Why use an Epson Intelligent Printer?
Kounta is a Point of Sale system, and as such it is best designed to use Point of Sale printers.
In particular, the Epson series of POS printers are the supported brand by Kounta, with some select models by Star also supported.
Unlike standard printers that you see on a regular PC, these receipt printers use receipt rolls to print and use a special type of printer language and driver set to perform their printing functions.
In order for our App to use these printers, we code special drivers into the app for these printers to work. As such most modern Epson POS printers will work with Kounta out of the box.
However, some hardware configurations (such as using Kounta on a Windows or MacOS PC, or the Commonwealth Bank Albert) are not compatible with this type of system and need a different way of communicating to print.
If you're using either of the below machines, you need at least one Intelligent Printer in your Printer Fleet
Epson's Intelligent Printer series is not only directly compatible with these systems, you can also use these printers to control otherwise incompatible Epson printers through these printers directly (also known as Slave Printing)
Which means if you already have a collection of Epson POS printers (perhaps you were using a different POS system than Kounta) you will only need one Intelligent Printer on the fleet for Kounta on the above hardware to use those printers.
The below video will run through Intelligent Printing in some detail, but the short take away is, unless you are using the above 3 devices as registers - you won't need Intelligent Printing. If you are using any of the above 3 devices, you need at least one Intelligent Printer in your printer fleet.
